As a medical doctor, a sleep doctor specializes in diagnosing and treating sleep-related disorders, such as Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA).
A person with sleep apnea can have three types. These are obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), central sleep apnea (CSA), and mixed sleep apnea. The main risk factors for OSA include obesity, allergies, enlarged tonsils, and a small airway. Also, sleep doctors treat other sleep-related disorders, such as insomnia, restless legs syndrome, periodic leg movements, narcolepsy, and circadian rhythm disorders.
